Helping pupils understand the paper, see the thinking behind the question, and become less dependent on the tutor.
I am John C., a primary school educator and the creator of PSLE Made Easy. My work focuses on helping pupils understand what a question is really asking, recognise the structure behind it, and learn from the mistakes that keep costing them marks.
Why PSLE Made Easy exists
I do not believe pupils improve simply because they receive more worksheets, more drilling or more tuition.
The aim is clearer learning: helping pupils understand the subject, the paper, the question, the thinking process and their own mistakes.
How I teach
I want the pupil to do the thinking. That means the student's attempt comes first. My job is to observe carefully, ask the right questions and help the pupil locate the point where the thinking went wrong.
What I help pupils learn to do
English
- understand what each component is testing
- plan and shape responses in Paper 1
- recognise grammar and language patterns in Paper 2
- break down comprehension questions before answering
- organise and communicate ideas more clearly in Oral
- understand where marks are being lost and why
Science
- understand the concept rather than memorise isolated answers
- recognise plausible distractors in MCQ questions
- identify the concept being tested
- use evidence from the question
- relate the evidence back to the concept
- answer Booklet B questions with greater precision
Online coaching should not become a private webinar
The pupil's screen is the main lesson space. The pupil attempts, highlights, edits and explains. I step in to model only when a new idea needs to be shown clearly.
The goal is independence
A pupil may need support now. That does not mean the support should become permanent. Good coaching should gradually make the pupil better at noticing clues, checking reasoning, correcting errors and deciding what to do next.
The aim
The purpose is not to make a pupil need me for longer. The purpose is to help the pupil gradually need less help.
Would this kind of support help your child?
The coaching page explains who targeted support may suit, how English and Science sessions work, and when a different kind of support may be more appropriate.
